Last week, the Institute of Thin Films, Sensors and Imaging celebrated the official launching of the institute. The event was opened by Prof. Sheila Rowan (Professor of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Glasgow in Scotland, and director of its Institute for Gravitational Research) who gave a inspirational talk about the research in Scotland and the potential of the ITFSI to impact on the thin film technology film. Prof. Craig Mahoney (Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of the West of Scotland) chaired the event and also gave a magistral talk. Visitors enjoyed live-demos from the group, including imaging technology, energy harvesting devices, and optical coatings, as well as attend to a tour through the facilities of the TFSI.
